Don’t you love the immediacy of Twitter? Courtesy of the always-present Derek Blasberg, at exactly 10:37pm CST, we followers of this year’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund competition found out, via twitter broadcast, that Joseph Altuzarra claimed the top prize tonight at the Skylight Soho in NYC. November cover-girl, Rooney Mara, and the Calvin Klein presented Altuzarra with his very well-deserved award. After all, have you seen his SS12 collection? As the winner, Altuzarra receives $300K (which seems like a LOT, but will burn faster than he grabbed the cheque, as his rapidly-growing business expands), a mentor for a year (I wonder who will be appointed the pleasure…), and a fancy swan-shaped trophy for his mantle.

Pamela Love and the duo behind Creatures of the Wind were the two runners-up, receiving “only” $100K, and the same year-long mentorship + trophy as golden boy Joseph. The other 7 finalists didn’t walk away empty-handed, though. The global exposure brought to their brands/labels due to the competition is a huge prize in itself, and I think they’d all agree. You can watch this year’s competition, leading up to tonight’s award ceremony, unfold in The Fashion Fund 2011 episodes on vogue dot com.

  1. I’m glad you’re finally back! I’m also glad that Altuzarra won, it’s a well deserved award indeed!

    • Thanks, Dex! I’ve been thinking about it for a while and browsing other platforms, but I’m so familiar with WordPress that I had to come back. It’s changed so much in the meantime, for the better!

RE: Altuzarras win – Agreed, and I saw it coming. Of all the finalists, his business, at the moment, has the most potential to become a serious high-end, booming luxury label, which is the whole concept behind the fund; to support, guide, mentor, fund, and propel a brand that has the best chance at becoming the next big name in American fashion. It doesn’t hurt that his clothes fly off the shelves at Barneys 😉
