We all remember Kanye West‘s highly anticipated, but ultimately ill-reviewed SS12 presentation in Paris this season (if not, do yourself a favour and please slide out from underneath the rock you’ve surely been living under, then click here). Ever since, I’ve been wondering if any retailers would even bother/ended up buying the collection, or if any publications put his Giuseppe Zanotti collaboration shoes at the top of their request list. Looks like one publication jumped on the ‘Ye train and followed through.
Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele (who’s credited for originally marrying hip-hop and high fashion in the early 90’s, according to V Magazine) slathered newcomer Cora Emmanuel in head-to-toe Kanye West (isn’t it called Dw by Kanye West? See invite) in a sexy throwback story fittingly titled “The Queen of Hip-Hop” for V Magazine‘s V75 issue, lensed by Sebastien Faena. Despite the face that Cora’s face is giving off some Sasha P (no?), who’s not the first face you think of when this comes on, her body language is appropriately oozing that 90’s Aaliyah (RIP) sex appeal, likewise with the oh-so-extra, over-beaded cropper halter top + shoes (not hating, adore the shoes – detail shot below; #statement). The skirt looks sad and unfinished, and not in a Tomas Maier/Bottega Veneta kinda way, but I’m sold as confidence is the hip-hop way to roll, and she’s selling it.
Hopefully, Mr. West is thrilled that his clothes made it into a single publication, let alone the likes of V, as his first attempt at a collection did not receive the praise I’m sure he wanted. But, who knows, maybe this story will spark an editorial frenzy, and stylists will be lining up to get a piece of Yeezy.
