Despite donning the most colour-infused looks of the collection, Jeneil Williams (at Nathalie) and Liu Wen (at Marilyn) represented all the colour for their counterparts during the Balenciaga FW12 show, being the only two girls of colour to walk in the sky high office space. A trend I’ve noticed, specifically with Ashley Brokaw, top casting director who’s clients include Balenciaga, Prada, Proenza Schouler, Tommy Hilfiger, and Rag&Bone, is that her casting for Balenciaga is limited to one black girl, who changes every season, and the invariable Asian girl, Liu Wen, for the girls of colour – that’s it. The rest, a vanilla sea mixed with newcomers and the established. See for yourself:

Liya Kebede in Cushnie et Ochs SS12

Or so it might as well have been called.

The 2011 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards was yet another fashion frenzied evening, which brought out celebrities, designers, their muses/models, socialites, top-of-the-masthead types, CEO’s, and other industry insiders to the Skylight Soho in NYC Monday night. Joseph Altuzarra was crowned the winner of this year’s top prize, while Pamela Love and Creatures of the Wind were named the runner’s up.

Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs of Cushnie et Ochs, who were finalists of this year’s competition, took home an unofficial prize that every budding label strives for and certainly needs: press. The duo managed to get 6 looks from their SS12 collection on the carpet, 4 of which draped the bodies of some noteworthy individuals, including a supermodel, an A-list actress, a beauty mogul, and an online luxury retailer co-founder. Each look was an absolute K.O., and sure to be discussed on The Fashion Police this week. See for yourself:
